Slow page loading on SH2

Some users on SH2 may have noticed that at times their web sites have been loading more slowly than usual. We have made some configuration changes to improve the performance of the HTTP server under increased traffic, and we're monitoring the server's performance to ensure that this issue is resolved.

Performance issues have continued over the past few days. We have temporarily reduced the number of simultaneous MySQL connections each user can have open while we continue to work on this.

Software optimisations have helped, but have not completely solved the problem, so we are now in the process of setting up an additional server to reduce the load on our existing servers.

The new server has been operational for nearly two weeks, and everything has been running smoothly so we're now considering this issue closed.
