DNS Server Failure

One of our DNS servers failed this morning and had to be replaced. The replacement server is online now, however some customers may see errors and inconsistencies in their DNS records for a short time while the DNS cluster re-synchronises.

Some customers will currently be seeing delays in email delivery due to increased load. We expect things to return to normal later this evening once traffic reduces.

SRV1 Upgrade

We will be performing a network upgrade to srv1.valcato.com on Saturday, September 24, 2011 between 1200 and 1300 UTC. There will be a period of time during this work when the server will be unavailable -- this should last no more than 30 minutes, and we expect that it will actually be much less than that.
We will update this notice when the upgrade begins.
Nameserver IP address changes

Following on from the final change to ns1.valcato.com, we have now made one final change to our other two nameserver IP addresses. If you're using our DNS servers and your domain name is not registered through us, you may need to contact your domain registrar to let them know about the change.
- ns2.valcato.com now has the IP address 107.20.195.250.
- ns3.valcato.com now has the IP address 79.125.110.111.
Rescheduled Maintenance Window

As of this week, we are moving our regular weekly maintenance window from Fridays to Saturdays, between 12:00 (noon) and 16:00 (UK time).
Any work which we don’t expect to disrupt our services will be performed during that time, without a specific announcement being sent out. Anything that might cause a disruption will still be announced via service notice (but will probably be performed during that same maintenance window as well).

As part of some work we've been carrying out to improve our infrastructure, we are making one final change to our nameservers. If you're using our DNS servers and your domain name is not registered through us, you may need to contact your domain registrar to let them know about the change.
Specifically, ns1.valcato.com now has the IP address "184.154.24.162". The old address will continue to work for the remainder of this month, so there will not be any immediate disruption as a result of this change.

Shared Cloud Maintenance

We will be performing maintenance on the Shared Cloud platform on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 starting at 1900 UTC. This will involve taking the system offline for a few minutes, during which time customer websites will be unavailable. We expect this to last 10-15 minutes, but we're allowing up to 30 minutes in case of any unexpected delays.
This does not affect customers who have been moved to our new shared hosting platform.
Slow Page Loading Speeds

Some Shared Cloud customers will currently be experiencing slower than normal page load times, caused by a temporary increase in traffic. We're working to improve the performance now and should have everything back to normal soon.

Nameserver IP address change

The IP address of one of our nameservers is changing. If you're using our DNS servers and your domain name is not registered through us, you may need to contact your domain registrar to let them know about the change.
Specifically, ns1.valcato.com now has the IP address "50.22.247.82". The old address will continue to work for a short time, so there will not be any immediate disruption as a result of this change.
Network Maintenance

Our network provider will be performing some network maintenance during the week of July 11, 2011. This shouldn't cause any outages, but may result in slower than normal connections to Shared Cloud for brief periods while work is carried out. The work will be split across three days:
- Tuesday, July 12, 2011 0400-1200 UTC
- Wednesday, July 13, 2011 0400-1200 UTC
- Thursday, July 14, 2011 0400-1200 UTC
It is expected that all work will be completed in the first two days, but the third maintenance window is scheduled in case the work takes longer than expected.
Shared Cloud Reboot

Some customers on Shared Cloud will be unable to access their web sites at the moment after one of the virtual machines stopped responding. We're rebooting it now and it will be back online shortly.
Network Maintenance

Our network provider will be performing maintenance on their backbone network. This shouldn't cause any disruption, but customers may briefly experience slightly degraded network performance.
This work is planned for the following dates:

Our network provider will be performing maintenance tomorrow morning, from 0400 UTC until 0900 UTC. During that time customers may briefly experience a loss of connectivity while routers are upgraded.
This will only affect customers who signed up for Shared Cloud from the start of today (June 14) or later. Customers who had existing Shared Cloud accounts on or before yesterday will not be affected.

We have discovered that there is a problem with Shared Cloud's network connection, which has been causing performance degradation over the past few days. We will be replacing the network hardware early next week, and in the meantime Shared Cloud will be moved to failover hardware.
