Introduction

The Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy (IRTP) defines the process for transferring domain names between providers, including protections against unauthorized changes to your domain. When making significant changes to a domain name, you may be prompted to complete email verification to confirm the changes. A lock is placed on the domain to prevent furtherĀ  modification until the change is confirmed.

What changes could trigger an IRTP Lock?

  • Registering a new domain.
  • Changing the name, organisation or address on the domain's whois contacts.
  • Transferring a domain to a new provider.

Will the IRTP Lock affect my website or email?

The IRTP Lock will not affect your website or email service; they will continue to operate as normal.

What actions does the IRTP Lock prevent?

Whilst the lock is in place, you cannot transfer the domain away to another provider.

How long does the IRTP Lock last?

60 days

Should I Opt-Out of the Transfer Lock?

How does the IRTP Transfer Lock relate to the Registrar Lock option?

The Registrar Lock option in your Valcato Account allows you to prevent a domain from being transferred away to another provider. The registrar lock must be removed before transferring a domain away. The Registrar Lock can be enabled and disabled at any time.

The IRTP Lock performs a similar function, but differs as it's applied automatically when making certain significant changes to the domain.

Can Valcato remove the IRTP Lock from my domain?

No. Regrettably if the IRTP lock is applied, we cannot we cannot override or remove it early.
